QMI-SAI Global announces that Gordon Hayburn, highly qualified professional and subject matter expert in areas of food safety, food law and food science, has joined the company as the new Technical Director of Agri-Food.

Hayburn brings over 25 years of experience in food manufacturing, food safety and auditing and will be an major asset in supporting and ensuring the seamless execution of the company’s current projects, as they continue to expand and grow both in scope and reach.

Prior to joining QMI-SAI Global, Gordon Hayburn was the Director of Compliance and VP of Food Safety and Quality at Tata Global Beverages, where he managed the Global Compliance function with complete product portfolio responsibilities while also leading the Worldwide Quality Assurance division.

Previously, Hayburn worked at University of Wales Institute Cardiff as a Senior Lecturer, where he planned and delivered lectures and seminars in Food Science/Technology, Food Safety and Food Law for BSc. (Hons.) and MSc. Students. He also introduced new courses on HACCP, Food Safety Management and Auditing and Risk Assessment, which allowed students to train towards becoming certified food safety auditors.

Hayburn also worked as an Independent Safety Consultant and provided consulting services in food safety management and comprehensive training in the areas of Food Safety, HACCP, legislation and health and safety for manufacturers and leading multiple retailers throughout the UK.

Gordon held the Senior Food Technologist position at Meat & Livestock Commission/EFSIS, where he was involved at the launch of EFSIS and has subsequently audited all sectors covered by the BRC standards. Gordon’s earliest roles include Environmental Health & Food Technologist at London Borough of Waltham Forest, Technical Manager at Pastamania and Quality Assurance Supervisor at Coca-Cola.

Today, Gordon Hayburn is a Fellow and Chartered Scientist of the Institute of Food Science & Technology, a member of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland and a member of both the Food & Drugs Law Institute and the European Food Law Association.

An experienced professional that has extensive knowledge of Food Industry worldwide, Hayburn is a skilled trainer and lecturer who is frequently called as an expert witness in legal proceedings and as a food safety specialist in the international media.

In addition to being a graduate Food Technologist, Hayburn has MSc. in Food Safety and Control and LLM in Food Law. He also has additional qualifications and training in HACCP, Auditing, Food Defense and a variety of ISO Standards, having worked as a lead assessor for both the ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 standards. Gordon has published and presented his PhD both in the UK and internationally.
